SCHOLAR SELECTION AND SUPPORT

Annual Nomination and Selection Process:

Each year in the spring, each Madison Metropolitan middle school nominates one eighth grade student to be considered for the Mann Selection Process.  Each nominee and their family is interviewed by a selection committee. Three to five students are selected to participate during their four years of high school.  During the four years of high school, the Scholars receive academic guidance and financial assistance that provides computers, school supplies, tutoring, summer school enrichment courses and other resources that help make high school a successful experience.

Priority is given to students with consideration to the following criteria:

•  A student who demonstrates a commitment to their education with their study skills, strong attendance and involvement in school activities  

• A family member/guardian who is committed and willing to support student while in high school           

• A dream or desire to go on to college or technical school after high school graduation

• A demonstrated financial need

• Primarily but not exclusively students of color who will be the first in their family to attend college

• A student who may be facing additional personal, physical or academic challenges

Selected students must remain within the Madison Metropolitan School District for all four years of high school

​Program Support

• Each Scholar receives an annual scholarship for academic needs (home computer, tutoring, school supplies, summer programs, school-related fees etc.).

• Staff monitor attendance, progress reports, final grades and scheduling.

• Annual meetings are arranged for each Scholar, family/guardian and school counselor/other school staff.

• Monthly Student Meeting and Community Volunteer Opportunities

• Assistance with tutoring and mentoring support

• Assistance with college searches, applications, scholarship and FAFSA forms (as applicable)
